An autobiography with Demons. This is a map to my soul written down on these pages for you to know. This is written in a sometimes very broken stream of consciousness way, though my many re-reads and edits should help. It is a memoir of madness and a tale of woe. If you read this then know that you will step into the darkness and within that darkness you will find my demons and you’ll see the worst and the best of humanity. This is not a happy book. Know that I am tired and alone, both scarred and scared of my experiences. I am both magician and magic trick in my own life and the tricks I play on my mind to keep pushing on. I am every experience that has ever hurt, broke or crushed me. Some I remember, some I just bear the wounds from and some of those wounds will never heal. I am lost battered, bruised and confused like the rest of us. I am part Native American, and part Asian. I have dealt with racism all of my life and I am the victim of child abuse on all levels.This is a map showing how people can break and how sometimes I'm just too stupid to stay down. This story is about a little boy who barely knew how to walk and how he once decided he would cross a street filled with broken bottles and what came before that moment and what came after it. That boy carried my name and as much as it hurts to admit it, that boy was me and always has been and always will be.

Okay, full disclosure:I met the author when I was 16, and we briefly dated when I was in my early twenties. It did not work out and did not end well. Now, that I'm closer to 40, I realize that two mentally ill, damaged people should not have dated in the first place. (Oh, and thankfully, I'm not mentioned in the book. I can only imagine how I appeared to him during that time.)Even knowing bits and pieces of the author's life, it was still very hard for me to read about. This is a harrowing book, full of horrific abusive situations and unfairness. My chest and throat tightened up through most of it. It didn't loosen til I got to the end of the book.
I liked the stream-of-consciousness, disjointed, jumping back and forth in time style. There are bits of repetitiveness, but it's understandable and does not detract from the story. It's good that the author wrote this. I hope that he writes more about his life, and that this book brings him some peace.

I picked up this book for my son who asked if he could use my to read it. I personally have a hard time reading life stories such as these, however, I have to say that you have made an impact on my son's life and have opened his eyes to the horrors that some people face growing up. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I purchased your other book and he and I both look forward to reading it.
